Freelance Graphic Designer for Flexible, Long-Term Work
We are seeking 2–3 freelance graphic designers to join our network of on-call collaborators. We’re looking to build lasting working relationships with creative professionals who can support design needs across a range of projects. Our ideal collaborators are detail-oriented, curious, responsive, and able to translate complex ideas and content into clear, engaging design.
This is a freelance, part-time position with flexible hours. Project timing and scope will vary. While most work and deadlines are scheduled in advance, there may be occasional requests with quick turnaround timelines.
PROJECT TYPES
Designers may be asked to support a variety of client and internal projects, including:
- Reports: Layout and formatting in Adobe InDesign or Canva, incorporating graphics and visual hierarchy to make dense content accessible. (Sample: https://bit.ly/402UrWA)
- Web Design: Updates or new builds maintaining clarity and usability while supporting content-driven navigation. (Sample: https://www.pressedmaterials.org/)
- Graphics and Infographics: Visualizations of data, processes, or concepts that simplify and clarify information. (Sample: http://bit.ly/45Zz8ZM)
- Templates and Slide Decks: Branded slide design for presentations, including complex visuals and storytelling aids.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Translate written and analytical content into clean, clear, and engaging visual formats.
- Collaborate with project leads to understand the goals, audience, and tone of each product.
- Maintain consistency with Fourth Economy’s brand or client branding guidelines while adapting to the unique needs of each project.
- Manage feedback and revisions efficiently, incorporating input from internal and client teams.
- Meet deadlines and communicate proactively about availability and workload.
SKILLS AND TOOLS
- Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and Google Workspace
- Experience with basic website design and updates using a content management platform such as Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, or similar
- Ability to translate complex, technical, or content-heavy materials into readable and engaging visual formats
- Strong layout, typographic, and information design skills
- Portfolio of work that includes report or publication design, infographics, and/or web layouts
- Familiarity with the kinds of work Fourth Economy does (e.g., economic development, community development, resilience, workforce, housing) is a plus
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
