At DGS, we are one team, working together to develop mission solutions – anywhere, anytime.
The Cybersecurity Sales Engineer – Operational Technology will directly support the pursuit of sales of novel cybersecurity products by providing technical expertise on cybersecurity solutions tailored for operational technology (OT) environments, including industrial control systems (ICS). This includes assessing client requirements, designing appropriate solutions implementing the product, delivering technical presentations and demonstrations, assisting in proposal development, and ensuring alignment between customer needs and product capabilities. The role also involves close collaboration with product and engineering teams to drive sales growth and customer satisfaction within industrial and critical infrastructure sectors.
- Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Design and present OT solution architectures that align with customer environments, focusing on secure data flow, system resilience, and reduction of sensitive communication exposure.
- Deliver clear product demonstrations and presentations, showing how the products’ modern security features can support strong protection strategies without relying on traditional tools.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with cybersecurity integrator companies, engineering firms, and technology partners to drive solutions and sales growth.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for potential customers, integrators, and channel partners by offering support and guidance throughout the sales and implementation processes.
- Develop new business by leveraging an existing professional network within the OT cybersecurity market.
- Collaborate with engineering and professional services teams to support project planning, configuration, and deployment of OT solutions.
- Provide on-site or virtual support during product evaluations, implementations, and system upgrades.
- Educate customers and stakeholders on OT systems, cybersecurity best practices, and product capabilities, emphasizing how modern security principles—such as minimizing trust assumptions and limiting exposure—apply to communication paths.
- Support and deliver training for partners and system integrators in deploying and managing OT security solutions, ensuring they understand how the products work alongside traditional tools like firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
- Represent the company at industry events and advocate for practical security solutions that protect operations without adding unnecessary complexity or disrupting workflows.
- Network with prospective clients and industry leaders, sharing insights and gathering intelligence on emerging OT threats and regulatory developments.
- Provide product teams with feedback based on customer needs, market trends, and competitive insights, highlighting the increasing demand for solutions that protect data integrity, confidentiality, and reduce exposure during transmission.
- Prepare and review documentation for proposals and bids, including product details and diagrams highlighting how solutions help protect sensitive information and maintain visibility in OT networks.
- Estimate product costs and develop bills of materials (BOMS) for proposed solutions.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Skills and Specifications
- Strong understanding of OT cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82, NERC CIP) and their practical application in designing secure, trust-minimized solutions for protecting data in transit.
- Experience in industrial sectors like oil & gas, utilities, water/wastewater, and manufacturing, with an understanding of the data communication challenges where resilience and confidentiality are key to safety and uptime.
- Experience integrating OT and IT systems—including edge computing, IoT, and cloud-based monitoring—with the ability to design secure communication models across hybrid environments without over-reliance on perimeter-based or stateful approaches.
- Understanding of Industry 4.0 and IIoT architectures and smart factory concepts, with the ability to guide customers in adopting simplified, secure communication solutions that reduce risk across dynamic and distributed environments.
- Strong understanding of industrial technologies such as PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, RTUs, and sensors, with insight into how secure communication methods must adapt to device limitations, protocol constraints, and legacy system behaviors.
- Familiarity with industrial network protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET) and experience assessing how their characteristics impact confidentiality, visibility, and message routing within OT networks.
- Proven experience supporting cybersecurity product sales pursuits and managing technical customer relationships, with the ability to clearly communicate architectural benefits like improved confidentiality and simplified segmentation.
- Experience working with or for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators, or industrial automation vendors (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric).
- Hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools and technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, asset discovery, and segmentation solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze, validate and organize information or data that is clear, concise and usable for stakeholders and decision makers.
- Proficiency with project estimation tools, AutoCAD or Visio for diagrams, and CRM methodology.
