Position Title: Director of Children & Youth Ministries
Immediate Supervisor: Family Ministries Director
Job Summary: Provides leadership for all aspects of ministry to children & youth (newborns through – 12th grade). Is the liaison to the Church Leadership Team on all children’s and youth ministries, to include nursery, preschool, Sunday School, and other events planned by the Children’s Ministry Team. Recruits, trains, and deploys volunteers to conduct children’s ministries events.
Requirements: Valid Georgia driver’s license. Possess excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills. Have good general computer skills, to include Microsoft applications. Pass a criminal background check. Pass the church’s Safe Sanctuary training. Able to lift 50 pounds. Be capable of working independently and collectively.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position with an expected break down of 15 hours dedicated to children and 25 hours dedicated to youth ministry responsibilities. With this position’s non-traditional work schedule outside of the established church office schedule, the work schedule will be coordinated with the Family Ministries Director but is estimated to require the following as dedicated hours: Children’s Ministry Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities (Children’s Ministry)
- Administrative:
Maintains daily contact with the church via email, voice mail, and/or text.
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, develop and maintain an annual budget as established by the Finance Committee.
? Attends all church staff meetings, Church Leadership Team meetings, and other committee meetings as needed to report on children’s ministries activities.
? Maintains records of attendance, membership, and information regarding current and potential participants in children’s ministries programs.
? Develop, create and submit a monthly newsletter panel.
? Mediates disputes involving children’s ministries and/or participants.
? Coordinates all children’s ministries activities with the Family Ministries Director.
? Provides all children’s ministries events to the church administrative assistant for inclusion on the church master calendar.
? Provides facility issues to the Family Ministries Director for repairs and/or replacement.
? Develops new ministry programs in conjunction with the Children’s Ministry Team and the Family Ministries Director.
? Recruits and trains volunteers as needed to implement all children’s ministries programs.
? Assist Family Ministries Director in other administrative tasks as needed
- Sunday School and Children’s Church:
? Recruits, trains and deploys Sunday school teachers and Children’s Church volunteers. Maintaining and communicating any necessary changes to the volunteer rotation schedule.
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, preview and select appropriate curriculum for Sunday School and Children’s Church.
? Recruits, trains, and deploys children as acolytes for the Sunday sanctuary worship services.
- Weekly Children’s Programs:
? Recruits, trains, and deploys adult volunteers for all children’s activities. Maintaining and communicating any necessary changes to the volunteer rotation schedule.
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, preview and select appropriate curriculums for all children’s programs.
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, develop and implement children’s activities held after the Wednesday night family supper.
- Special Events & Missions:
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, develops and implements special children’s events, such as vacation Bible school, Christmas Program, Easter egg hunts, summer programs, mission opportunities, Camp Connect, etc.
? Promote participation in summer camps at Epworth-by-the-Sea.
? Coordinates and provides necessary transportation to and from events held off of the church campus.
? Attends special events as permitted.
? In conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, develops and implements mission opportunities for children.
? Provides logistical support to and children’s missions projects.
- Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned by the Children’s Ministries Team, Family Ministries Director, Senior Pastor, and/or Church Leadership Team.
Duties and Responsibilities (Youth Ministry)
- Administrative ? Attend bi-monthly staff meetings. Present current events and coordinate church wide planning with other staff.
? Develop, create and submit a monthly newsletter panel.
? In conjunction with the Youth Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director, develop and maintain an annual budget as established by the Finance Committee.
? Attending and participating in personal learning experiences (ie: the annual youth leader retreat hosted by the district office)
- Programming:
? In conjunction with the Youth Ministries Team and the Family Ministries Director Sunday School teaching schedules and choose, purchase, and plan yearly Sunday School curriculum calendar.
? Coordinate Wednesday night teaching schedules and choose, purchase, and plan yearly mid-week curriculum calendar.
? Lead and teach Wednesday night youth programming.
? Coordinate yearly strategic planning with church wide events. Plan, coordinate and execute an annual calendar of events.
- Outreach: ? Consistently study and develop a plan for creating disciples of Jesus Christ in our youth; engage/encourage/mentor youth members
? Recruit, train, direct and support volunteer leaders and helpers for Sunday School, mid-week, and other special programming needs. (including verifying and coordinating Safe Sanctuaries policies)
? Manage, develop, create and execute social media and text interactions and announcements to be published on the church website or social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram).
? Develop and execute periodic mail outs to communicate directly with youth members or their families
- Events: ? Plan, execute and communicate a summer special events calendar. Develop special events, travel, or group activities outside the “regular” youth activities calendar.
? Research and choose an annual summer mission trip. Fundraise for annual expenses associated with the mission trip (these expenses are not part of the annual church budget). Promote and recruit youth members as well as adult volunteers to attend the mission trip. Calculate financial needs for the entire trip, including fuel, adult volunteers, expenses, etc. Ensure that all participation paperwork and waivers are complete. Secure any additional overnight accommodations, travel, entertainment and/or meals needed.
? Plan, execute and communicate to families the annual Baccalaureate Sunday breakfast and worship service. Communicate with the scholarship committee annually regarding scholarship awards.
? Plan, execute and communicate an annual/bi-annual confirmation course. Collaborate with the director of family ministries. Attend confirmation retreat.
? Implement fall retreat participation for the entire youth group. Coordinate youth sign up, receive payment, and execute all travel plans associated with retreat.
? Develop and implement various special and/or overnight events throughout the year. (ie. Rock the Universe at Universal Studios, Atlanta Weekend: Six Flags/Braves, Superbowl Sunday with Perry & Tifton UMC, fall retreat, summer missions, and others that may be added in the future). This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating admission ticket purchases, hotel reservations, adult volunteer recruitment and training, travel itinerary, and securing transportation to and from the activities or events. (to include overseeing the health, safety and wellbeing of all participants)
? Coordinating and executing ecumenical youth activities with other churches' youth groups
