Strategic Communications Advisor (Media & Defense Tech)
Description:
I’m the founder of a fast-growing defense tech company operating at the intersection of AI, drones, and vision-based navigation systems in GPS-denied environments. We've been on the ground in Ukraine for the last year, directly supporting front-line capabilities — and our work is now drawing serious interest from journalists, policymakers, and U.S. defense stakeholders.
I’m looking for a Strategic Communications Advisor to help me:
Shape my personal and company narrative
Navigate interviews with high-profile journalists
Develop messaging that clearly communicates our technology, mission, and impact
Position our story within the broader geopolitical and national security context
This is not basic PR. I’m looking for someone who understands how national security, emerging tech, and media storytelling intersect — and who can help me control the narrative without being defensive or overly polished.
Responsibilities:
Help refine core messaging for me and my company
Review and respond to inbound journalist inquiries
Advise on which reporters/stories are worth pursuing
Prepare talking points and media prep for interviews
Draft op-eds or thought leadership pieces (as needed)
Help frame our company’s relevance to U.S. defense strategy (esp. “lessons learned from Ukraine”)
Ideal Experience:
Background in strategic communications, journalism, or public affairs
Experience advising founders, executives, or public officials on media engagements
Familiarity with national security, defense, or dual-use technology sectors
Strong writing skills and an ear for tone (no “PR speak”)
Bonus if you’ve worked with DoD, think tanks, or tech startups in the defense space
Duration & Scope:
Initially 10–20 hours total over 4 weeks
Possibility of ongoing work if it’s a good fit
I do have 3 Journalists who are interested in doing a piece on me.
