Passionate Special Education Teacher - ASD Classroom

    Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, students, and families.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, social skills, communication strategies, and self-regulation techniques, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Create and maintain a structured and predictable classroom environment that promotes student engagement, reduces anxiety, and supports positive behavior.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies and adaptive materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students with ASD.
  • Implement positive behavior support strategies and work collaboratively with behavior therapists and other support staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and fostering a strong home-school connection.
  • Collaborate effectively with educational assistants, therapists (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists), and other specialists to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in ASD education.
  • Maintain accurate and organized student records.
  • Supervise and support educational assistants within the classroom.
    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree with a specialization in Special Education or equivalent. Masters degree preferred.
  • Valid state certification with Special Education qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based practices for supporting students with ASD.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the success of students with ASD.
  • Ability to adapt and differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and its application in the classroom is an asset.
