Part-Time Residential Drafter - Chief Architect
Position Overview
Timberland Structural is hiring a part-time structural drafter with proven experience in Chief Architect to support our structural engineering team. This role focuses exclusively on residential structural framing plans, including beams, headers, posts, roof layouts, floor systems, and foundations for custom homes, additions, and decks.
You’ll collaborate closely with our Head Engineer to produce precise, buildable, and code-compliant plan sets for permit submittals across the Colorado Front Range.
- Key Responsibilities
- Draft and annotate residential structural framing plans in Chief Architect (walls, floors, roofs, posts, beams, headers, etc.)
- Interpret and apply structural redlines from the engineering team
- Incorporate framing details and specifications from Timberland’s internal standards
- Export and prepare PDF drawing sets for permitting or client delivery
- Coordinate with the engineer on plan revisions or jurisdiction-specific adjustments
- Maintain clean drawing layers and standardized symbols per firm drafting conventions
- Required Qualifications
- Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Drafting, Architecture, Construction Technology, or related field required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required for highly experienced candidates
- Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 2 years drafting experience in residential construction, with a focus on structural framing
- Proficiency in Chief Architect (Premier X12 or later) preferred
- Solid understanding of wood-frame construction and structural detailing per IRC
- Ability to interpret and implement structural engineering notes and redlines
- Strong visual drafting standards, dimensioning, and plan clarity
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with Colorado Front Range county permitting processes
- Experience in structural plan sets for decks, additions, or new custom homes
- Exposure to Bluebeam, Revit, or AutoCAD
- Understanding of load paths, shear walls, and structural coordination
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 24 per week
