Frontier Psychiatry aims to improve the emotional, behavioral, and physical well-being of rural communities by delivering scalable, timely, and evidence-based interventions in psychiatry and addiction medicine. Since its launch in March 2020, Frontier Psychiatry has expanded its telehealth services across Montana, Idaho, and Alaska. Our long-term goal is to be the solution to the mental health and addiction crisis in rural America, expanding our footprint by two states per year for the next six years.A Medical Assistant is an instrumental member of the clinical support team at Frontier Psychiatry. This role supports clinicians in delivering high-quality virtual care by assisting with prior authorizations, patient communications, and care coordination. In addition, the Medical Assistant is responsible for scheduling and conducting cognitive assessments and processing incoming and outgoing medical records requests. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient and compassionate patient care delivery in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Communication:- Responsible for addressing patient questions in a timely manner which includes answering phone calls, responding to text messages and patient portal messages.
- Triage incoming patient correspondences appropriately (i.e. fax, email, website, text, phone, mail, etc)
- Assist patients with technological help with virtual visits and/or portal questions.
- Coordinate and manage Brain check cognitive assessment appointments, including obtaining prior authorizations when required.
- Facilitate BrainCheck proctoring and stay up to date on BrainCheck insurance requirements and policy changes.
- Oversee providers schedule and ensure patient charts are prepared by abstracting clinical data including requesting outside records when needed.
- Process all provider requests such as requesting records, ordering labs or other dianostic studies, make outgoing patient calls, etc.
- Ensure monthly follow up on incomplete orders ordered by the physician per policy.
- Facilitate outgoing referrals per physician order. Assist to coordinate the transfer of care and records when needed.
- Assist providers with documentation and annotations within the EHR, ensuring compliance with data capture requirements for reporting agencies.
- Properly sort and label incoming clinical documents. Route all others appropriately.
- Fulfill clerical duties as assigned which may include: FMLA paperwork, Disability paperwork, return to work letters, obtaining consent forms, entering ticklers and making appointments.
- Attend and engage in regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings across the company.
- Participate in various internal projects as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education & Certification:- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Medical Assistant required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Understanding of basic medical terminology.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
- Ability to provide compassionate and empathetic patient support.
- Capability to learn and navigate new technology and software systems quickly.
