About the RoleWork Structure

Reporting to the Vice President of Programs, the Director of the District Impact Network plays a central role in advancing AFHK's integrated school health model through strategic partnerships with districts nationwide. This leader oversees both the Program Design and School Health Operations teams, guiding the development and delivery of initiatives that improve student health across five core areas: physical activity, nutrition, mental health and wellness, skills-based health education, and risk behavior prevention.

You'll drive the growth of the District Impact Network strategy and collaborate across teams to strengthen programs, amplify district impact, and integrate field-facing expertise into scalable support.

What You'll Do

    Program StrategyLeadership
  • Lead Program Design and School Health Operations teams to ensure alignment and excellence
  • Advance initiatives across AFHK's five program pillars: physical activity, nutrition, mental health, health education, and risk behavior prevention
  • Manage grants, contracts, and budgets to maximize impact and efficiency
  • Monitor key initiatives and support innovation based on data and district feedback
    District EngagementCapacity Building
  • Provide high-quality support, technical assistance, and resources to schools and districts nationwide
  • Build infrastructure to strengthen wellness policies, action plans, and advisory councils
  • Manage district partnerships to deliver lasting change
    Coalition LeadershipThought Partnership
  • Lead AFHK's National School District Wellness Coalition
  • Facilitate peer learning, working groups, and annual convenings
  • Elevate district-led models through national visibility and co-designed programs
    Team DevelopmentCross-Functional Collaboration
  • Mentor and support staff across multiple program teams
  • Collaborate with Learning, Growth, and ResearchEvaluation teams to ensure cohesive strategy and delivery
  • Contribute to funding proposals and organizational storytelling

What You'll Bring to the Role

We're looking for an experienced leader with the insight, drive, and commitment to advance school health across districts. You understand what it takes to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex programs, and build partnerships that get results. This role calls for someone who leads with purpose, embraces complexity, and thrives on making real-world impact.

    To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in public health, education, or a related field
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in school health or district wellness programming
  • A strong background in managing grants, budgets, contracts, and operational systems
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with multi-disciplinary teams and strategic initiatives
  • Deep knowledge of school wellness policies, district operations, and student health frameworks
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills, with a practical, goal-oriented approach
  • Confidence working with internal teams and external partners, including districts, funders, and collaborators
  • Technical savvy in Salesforce, Asana, Microsoft Office, and similar tools
  • A focused, collaborative mindset - someone who builds trust, drives progress, and keeps priorities aligned with mission
    Bonus Points
  • Experience with SHI, WellSat, WPAT or school health assessment tools
  • Background in nonprofit or national education-based public health initiatives
  • Strong understanding of fundraising and proposal development
