Business & Commercial Collections Specialist II
Overview: Responsible for managing an assigned customer base of delinquent loans, mitigating loss situations and reducing nonaccrual and loss population to M&T Bank. Evaluate status of loan to decide on interactions with customers, Branch Managers and Relationship Managers. Transfer accounts to Workout Team based on delinquency or other risk triggering factors. Initiate collateral evaluations in order to assess the equity in the collateral. Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for handling past due Commercial loans, Mortgages, Leases, Lines of Credit, Credit Cards and overdrawn Deposit Accounts. Interact with customers via outbound calls, inbound calls and email correspondence. Collaborate with direct management, business customers, risk management, sales and branch reps, relationship and regional management to determine solution. Initiate direct contact with business customers and all guarantors assessing the prospect of repayment; make recommendations for short-term change to repayment schedules, and other solutions, and transfer to Workout/Special Assets as necessary. Collect business and financial statements; review business’ historical performance with management to determine the best solution to mitigate risk/loss at the total “Customer Relationship” level. Provide thorough documentation supporting business recommendations to managers surrounding repossession, legal referrals, non-accrual, workout, Special Asset transfer and/or charge-offs. Investigate and conduct skip tracing as required. Provide on the job training for Collection Specialists. Guide co-workers on more complex research issues. Responsible for the handling of all products serviced as a result of cross-training. Keep abreast of business and market trends that may affect portfolio performance. Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Scope of Responsibility: Large percentage of time spent on the phone with customers. Work under limited supervision. Education and Experience Required: A combined 4 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ Commercial, Revolving Credit or Overdraft collections experience. Experience in collateral equity analysis. Knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and Mortgage loans and financial statement reviews. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Detail oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in all Business Banking products. Education and Experience Preferred: Bachelor’s degree. Three years’ Commercial, Revolving Credit or Overdraft collections experience. Knowledge of Bankruptcy, UCC, and Real Estate collateral, financial analysis and defaulted loans legal processing. Knowledge of M&T Bank systems.
