Job Details
The Controller will be a key member of the finance team responsible for managing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. This role will oversee the monthly close process, ensure compliance with SEC and GAAP standards, and support financial planning as we scale for commercialization. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, experience in a public company environment, and a collaborative mindset suited for a fast-paced biotech setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the general ledger, monthly close process, and preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Manage and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Lead preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K) in collaboration with external auditors and legal counsel
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling activities
- Partner cross-functionally with clinical, R&D, and operations teams to align financial reporting with program needs
- Manage accounts payable, payroll, equity administration, and fixed asset accounting
- Oversee external audit processes and ensure compliance with SOX readiness as needed
- Identify opportunities to streamline systems and improve the efficiency of the finance function
- Mentor and develop a growing accounting team
Qualifications:
- CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or MBA a plus)
- Minimum 6+ years of experience, with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 or national firm preferred) and industry, ideally within life sciences, biotech, or pharma
- Experience with SEC reporting and public company compliance
- Strong understanding of technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, R&D accruals, and lease accounting
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment with limited infrastructure
- Proficiency with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or other accounting systems; experience implementing new systems is a plus
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
