- Responsibilities
- Communicate regularly with students and their families to identify their needs, goals, and expectations for their college admissions journey
- Provide end-to-end counseling, including
- * Regular 60-minute advising sessions via Zoom with each of your students
- Keeping track of deadlines for various applications and educational milestones
- Assigning relevant tasks between sessions to maximize student success
- Responding to student and parent inquiries
- Successfully and conscientiously manage a cohort of medical school, pre-med, and BS/MD applicants
- * Typical cohorts are between 5 to 10 students at a given time
- Support student progress by providing personalized advising tailored to each student’s geographic location, financial needs, academic and extracurricular goals, and long-term trajectory.
- Conduct research as needed to support your advising sessions, clarify inquiries, or present valuable information/resources to your students.
- Lead students in the exploration, research, and discernment of a balanced college list that reflects their academic, professional and personal interests.
- Be forward-thinking and strategic in the advice and guidance provided to your students, ensuring that you are an expert and up-to-date on the admissions issues they are facing.
- Mentor students through the writing process for personal statements, supplemental essays, résumés, etc. by helping students identify their personal narrative and providing meaningful and actionable feedback on their materials.
- Provide interview preparation and support during the application process.
- Participate in biweekly meetings with 6-8 other Prepory coaches conducted by your Lead Coach mentor.
- Participate as an additional reader in our Committee Review.
- Maintain detailed communication with the Program Director and Director of Client Success to provide ongoing updates on student progress
- Qualifications of our Ideal Candidate
- Former medical school admissions experience at an accredited medical school in the US is strongly preferred, but we will consider candidates with significant experience in pre-med advising, medical education, or health professions advising
- Graduated from or worked at a top-ranked medical school or undergraduate institution (e.g., top 50 ranked universities or medical schools)
- In-depth knowledge of the U.S. medical school admissions process, including AMCAS/AACOMAS systems, secondary applications, MCAT preparation, interview formats (e.g., MMI), and holistic review practices
- Familiarity with the broader landscape of U.S. undergraduate and medical education, including pre-medical advising and pipeline programs
- Ability to support multiple students throughout an entire application cycle, typically from planning through interviews and final decisions
- Availability during after-school hours and on weekends, with flexibility to accommodate students in international time zones, especially during peak admissions periods
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to keep students on track with deadlines and document submission
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, especially in providing constructive feedback on personal statements, activity entries, and secondary essays
Compensation Range
$22.75/hr - $32.75/hr
