The USA TODAY NETWORK is searching for a digital producer to join the West Hub, an audience team serving the online needs of multiple newspapers in the Western U.S. These properties include the Ventura County Star in California, the Reno Gazette Journal in Nevada, and the Statesman Journal and Register-Guard in Oregon.

A successful candidate should have excellent writing and copy-editing skills with prior digital news or story packaging experience. You must demonstrate strong news judgment to manage the websites’ homepages and serve as quality control on all types of content.

Candidates must be detail-oriented and work well under pressure to meet demanding deadlines, as well as demonstrate an understanding of audience metrics and SEO with the goal of growing the audience.

The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator who can work closely with reporters, content coaches and newsroom leadership.

This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii. West Coast candidates are a plus.

Typical job duties:
• Edit, produce and publish content, optimizing for SEO and digital best practices.
• Manage sites’ homepages, programming desktop and mobile, to engage a loyal audience.
• Create engaging, informative social media posts and infographics.
• Work with reporters and editors on projects to produce in-depth storytelling packaging.
• Monitor wire services and other media.
• Use metrics to determine traffic patterns and make changes tied to the data. Familiarity with Parse.ly and Google Analytics products a plus.
• Manage workflow to meet deadlines.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Some experience working for a news organization.
• Solid news judgment.
• Top-notch editing and headline-writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Able to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.
• Ability to act calmly and decisively in complex breaking news situations.
• Knowledge of newspaper style.

Candidates with the following are encouraged to apply:

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $48,000 and $75,000. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
