Job Overview
Divine Purpose Publishing House is seeking experienced and detail-oriented freelance Book Interior Designers to join our creative team. This is a remote, contract-based position ideal for designers who are passionate about clean, professional layouts and bringing authors’ manuscripts to life through thoughtful typesetting and formatting. Designers in this role will support both in-house publishing projects and authors we coach through the self-publishing process. Files must be prepared to meet platform standards and ready for distribution.
- Key Responsibilities
- Format and typeset book interiors for print and/or digital publication
- Ensure consistency in spacing, hierarchy, and style across the manuscript
- Adapt layouts for multiple trim sizes or versions (paperback, hardcover, etc.)
- Deliver high-quality, print-ready files that meet industry standards (IngramSpark, B&N Press, etc.)
- Revise layouts as needed based on internal and author feedback
- Collaborate with editors, project managers, and illustrators when required
- Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in book layout and typesetting
- Proficient in Adobe InDesign or comparable industry-standard layout software
- Strong understanding of formatting for multiple genres (memoir, nonfiction, fiction, devotionals, children’s books, etc.)
- Detail-oriented with a deep understanding of design hierarchy, readability, and spacing
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines with clear communication
- Professional portfolio or sample work required
Location Requirement
Applicants must reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While this is a fully remote role, we host occasional in-person team-building gatherings throughout the year.
Compensation
This is a freelance contract role. Compensation is determined per project and varies based on word count, layout complexity, and trim size.
Schedule
This is a project-based role. Assignments are offered as needed based on availability and alignment with project requirements.
