Props Technician

Full-Time Position

We are looking for a Props Technician to join our Props team! This position’s main responsibility will be to construct, maintain and run Props cue tracks in a safe and consistent manner, with the guidance of the Head of Department (“HOD”), Props. The ideal candidate will be resourceful, have excellent communication and be the ultimate team player to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the show.

The Props Technician will have the opportunity to:

- Assist the Props management team in establishing and maintaining the safe and consistent operations of all production properties and puppet elements for all performances;

- Preserve the artistic integrity of the props and puppet designs, in cooperation with the Props HOD, along with Technical Services;

- Troubleshoot and oversee operation of all production props and puppet elements during performances;

- Develop inspection and maintenance schedules, as well as procedures;

- Maintain an adequate inventory of props and supplies for performance needs;

- Follow and maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity in performance operations of the Props Department;

- Plan staff requirements and schedules for all maintenance and training calls;

- Maintain and update the props and puppet specifications and drawings of all production props and puppet elements, as well as all pertinent inspection and maintenance records;

- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;

- Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;

- Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;

- Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

- At least one year of experience in professional Props;

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD;

- In-depth experience in theatrical props for large scale productions;

- Proven skill in props fabrication, wood and metal construction;

- Sculpture and scenic painting skills an asset;

- Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;

- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. - Fluent in English, both written and spoken;

- Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;

- Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
