We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.

It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.

One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.

About the Role:

We're looking for a strategic leader to step into the role of Vice President, Corporate Controller, and become a key member of Confluent’s Accounting leadership team. In this role, you'll directly influence our global financial operations, leading a diverse team spanning the US, EMEA, and APAC, while overseeing critical areas such as corporate accounting (consisting of general ledger and consolidations), international accounting, SEC reporting, technical accounting, global payroll, and shared services. This position offers the chance to define the strategic direction and execute the scaling of our people, processes, and systems, directly contributing to Confluent's continued expansion and success in the data streaming industry. This position reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer.

What You Will Do:
  • Oversee the monthly worldwide close and management reporting process for Confluent and its subsidiaries, ensuring that accurate financial results are closed and consolidated in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Oversee the preparation of all SEC filings (Form 8-K, 10Q, 10K, XBRL tagging, etc.), including managing the approval process of all SEC filings with external auditors, senior management, legal counsel, and disclosure committee.

  • Evaluate the accounting treatment for all significant accounting transactions, research and implement relevant accounting standards, and review technical accounting memoranda on significant and complex transactions to support accounting positions.

  • Oversee and manage a Global Payroll and Shared Services team supporting all functions under the Corporate Accounting umbrella, establishing metrics, KPIs, and SLAs to measure effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Primary liaison with our independent external auditors; manage the relationship and coordinate the annual financial statement audit process.

  • Provide thought leadership and establish a long-term vision on the record-to-report process for scalability, including location strategy, driving transformation initiatives, automation, and AI adoption, and leading the team through change management.

  • Lead and/or actively participate in Company/business initiatives, including operationalizing accounting for new transactions, the implementation of new accounting standards, and acting as a key agent or leader in the implementation of business and accounting systems.

  • Maintain and evolve our internal controls environment and evaluate opportunities for efficiency while ensuring compliance with Confluent’s accounting policies and SOX.

  • Provide accounting expertise on M&A transactions from pre-acquisition due diligence through post-acquisition integration.

What You Will Bring:
  • 15+ years of experience with large multinational publicly traded corporations, including Big 4 experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a professional designation, such as CPA.

  • Prior leadership experience as Corporate Controller at a public company and/or experience working at an enterprise software company.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures, including experience with GAAP technical accounting research and SEC reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience leading the scaling of people, processes, and systems in high-growth and dynamic environments.

  • Ability to attract, develop, re-skill, motivate, and manage a high-performing and high-potential team.

  • Strong executive presence, interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate, influence, and work with people at all levels in the organization.

What Gives You an Edge:
  • Advisory experience or National Office tour in a Big 4 public accounting firm.

  • Experience in a high-growth enterprise software or SaaS company, consumption revenue experience.

  • Experience establishing a location and close optimization strategy, leading the change management and execution, driving process maturation and automation.

  • Leading a global organization across multiple time zones in a remote and distributed environment.
