Job Description
Under the supervision of the DEC Division of Forest Protection, serve as a dispatcher for emergency and non-emergency calls from officers and the public. Responsibilities include obtaining caller information, dispatching police resources, performing clerical duties, and working effectively with dispatch team members and the public. Work conditions involve sitting or standing for long periods, monitoring screens, entering data, handling calls calmly under stress, and making quick judgments.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- This position is part of the NY HELPS program, which allows non-competitive appointments. The traineeship lasts two years, leading to a permanent position as a Communications Specialist 1 (Grade 12).
- High school diploma or equivalency for Trainee 1 (Grade 8).
- One year of service as a Trainee 1 or equivalent experience for Trainee 2 (Grade 10).
- Two years of experience or training as specified for the full specialist role, including dispatching or related emergency services experience, or military service with honorable discharge.
- Overtime, holiday work, and emergency response availability are required. Background checks and fingerprinting are mandatory, with the candidate responsible for fees.Additional Comments
