Master’s Level Internship Opportunity – Mental Health Counseling Department (Family Violence Intervention Program)

Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and committed Volunteer Intern to join our Mental Health Counseling Department, supporting our Family Violence Intervention Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with individuals affected by domestic violence while contributing to meaningful interventions that promote safety, healing, and empowerment.

This role is ideal for a graduate student currently pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) or Master’s in Counseling, looking to build experience in trauma-informed care, client engagement, and community support strategies.

    Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct initial intake and psychosocial assessments with clients referred to the program.
  • Support facilitation of group sessions for individuals involved in domestic violence situations (perpetrators and/or survivors, depending on the program structure).
  • Assist with administering and analyzing follow-up surveys to evaluate program effectiveness and client progress.
  • Help connect clients to community resources including mental health support, housing, legal aid, and employment services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in accordance with program and ethical standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and training opportunities as appropriate.
    Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Social Work (MSW) or Masters in Counseling program (required).
  • Strong interest in working with individuals impacted by domestic violence.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Spanish or other second-language fluency is a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
