Data Specialist - Learning Technology Platforms and Products

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Data Specialist to join our team in New York City. The candidate will play a dual role as a Data Specialist, providing both advisory and project execution services to Magic EdTech clients. This position is partly billable to our clients and also involves offering thought leadership to external and internal stakeholders at Magic EdTech. The primary responsibility of this role is to guide clients in managing data to enhance competitiveness, reduce data management costs, and deliver value to their stakeholders.

Educational Data Understanding is a Must

    Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Quality & Governance:
  • Develop and implement data quality standards, data protection standards, and adoption requirements across the organization.
  • Ensure data governance policies are in place and followed to maintain data integrity and compliance.
    2.Data Reporting:
  • Design and generate comprehensive data reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize advanced analytics to support data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Technology Stack Management:
  • Oversee the technology stack that supports data management and reporting.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the smooth integration and functionality of data systems.
    4.Educational Data Understanding:
  • Understand and address the specific data requirements of universities and colleges.
  • Work with Learning Analytics, Student Journeys, Student Success, and Student Retention metrics.
  • Monitor and analyze Content Consumption, Student Information Systems, Credentials, and Rostering.
    5.Standards and Frameworks:
  • Ensure compliance with educational data standards such as 1EdTech Caliper, CASE (Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange), A4L, CEDS
    6.Data Security, Privacy & Compliance:
  • Implement data security measures to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR, FERPA, and other relevant data privacy laws.
  • Develop and enforce policies for data security, privacy, and ethical data use.
    7.AI and Data Quality Management:
  • Manage data quality to ensure ethical and appropriate leverage of AI and AI technologies.
  • Implement data governance practices to support responsible AI usage and mitigate bias in AI models.
    8.Consulting and Client Advisory:
  • Provide advisory and project execution services to Magic EdTech clients.
  • Guide clients in managing data to enhance competitiveness, reduce data management costs, and deliver value to their stakeholders.
  • Advise clients on outsourcing data management and data technology work to Magic EdTech.
    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in with 8 years of experience in Data Science, Information Technology, Education Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in data management, data governance, and data reporting within an educational technology context.
  • Strong understanding of the unique data requirements of higher education institutions.
  • Proficiency with data standards and frameworks relevant to the education sector.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems.
  • Experience with data analytics tools and software.
  • Expertise in transforming legacy data technologies to modern solutions.
  • Experience in designing and managing data lakes.
  • Knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to manage data quality for ethical and appropriate AI usage.
  • Experience in providing technology consulting services to clients.
