The responsibilities of this position would include research, teaching and service. This position has 2/2 teaching load. In addition to teaching in the Creative Core, the responsibilities of this position include Graduate Associate Instructor mentoring and supervision, curricular development, budget oversight, and classroom studio maintenance. The successful candidate would haven a active record of creative practice. Courses taught in the Creative Core are foundation-level and preparatory for students beginning their studies in the studio arts, design and merchandising fields. Creative Core courses are also open to many non-majors to fulfill Arts and Humanities electives. The Creative Core program offers over 60 sections each year of courses encompassing the subject areas of 2D and 3D design, drawing, color study and variable topic cross-disciplinary workshops. A successful candidate will also have expertise on one or more of the following areas: drawing, 2-D design, 3-D design, digital media, or design practices. The Eskenazi School ( ) is seeking a candidate who would also be responsible for co-teaching the large lecture course, ?Pathways in Art, Design and Merchandising,? as well as overseeing the associate instructors who lead accompanying discussion sections. ?Pathways? introduces the various career directions available to Eskenazi students, focusing on areas of overlap in these fields, as well as the forces of change which have historically shaped them and continue to impact their development. We seek candidates who can provide collegial initiative in a team-based environment. A strong candidate will have demonstrated an ability to work successfully with students, faculty, administration, and the community. Our School mission reads: We are the nexus of art, architecture, design, and merchandising at Indiana's flagship university-advancing research, creative activity, and education in our state and beyond. As a trans-disciplinary community of ethical leaders, we embrace the liberal arts, encourage risk-taking, inspire innovation, and fuel creativity in a complex world. The Eskenazi School is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars. In examining its responsibilities, the Eskenazi School has noted: ?Historically, many artists and designers?found their voice in large part through questioning or being excluded themselves by societal norms and prejudices. The Eskenazi School is, therefore, IU's hub for fields that have consistently been at the forefront of counter culture and share a unique history for critical engagement with racism, gender and LGBTQ+ issues, economic disparities, equal rights, and other vital concerns, both urgently timely and inherently timeless. ?The Eskenazi School acknowledges academia in the United States exists within a space of white privilege; and we are not an exception. The predominately white nature of our School, the creative fields, and academia is detrimental to our community as a whole. The lack of diversity not only affects those that have been continually marginalized by way of exclusion and abuse, but it also compromises the humanity, research, and teaching of all our faculty, staff, and students. Due to the undying efforts of people who continue to fight for a better society, many are waking up to the difference between how we see ourselves and how others experience us?Our privileged idea of higher education will only change if the culture and thought of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and all people, are able to thrive freely. ?The Eskenazi School actively upholds diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical principles of our research, teaching, and service. We validate the voice and potential of every member of our community, strive to create a culture where difference is valued, and celebrate multiple perspectives within and beyond the School. We believe social and cultural consciousness inspires meaningful dialogue and empowers all to become influential and fulfilled citizens of the world.? The Eskenazi School houses fourteen different areas in art, design, and merchandising. This is where art, merchandising, architecture, and design merge to shape the future of creativity from imagination to implementation. Founded in 1820, Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of IU's eight campuses statewide. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of our world-class contributions in research and the arts. Basic Qualifications A successful candidate for this position will have a firm resolve about the importance of the foundation-level Creative Core experience within an undergraduate degree, a commitment to the mentorship of the graduate instructors as critical to the vitality of this program, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the shaping of the Creative Core program.
