Job title: EL Facilitator Company: Proviso Township High Schools Job description : Valid Illinois Professional Educators License with endorsement in content area, must have EL Endorsement Desired Experience or Training Master?s Degree; Previous high school teaching experience POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential EL Specfic Duties and Responsibilities (in addition to as needed general teaching responsibilities as outlined below): 1. Provides direct, technical assistance to ESL teachers and content teachers of English Language Learners. 2. Communicates and collaborates with staff, parents, students, community and advocates on issues pertaining to English Learner Students. 3. Attends team and grade-group meetings to provide input on best practices for English Language Learners. 4. Participates in ESL curriculum development. 5. Assist with district curriculum planning and development to include appropriate instructional strategies for ELs in content area subjects. 6. Assists schools in the identification, screening, scheduling, and placement of English Learners in language and content programs. 7. Collaborates with Special Ed Teachers and Facilitators to ensure that all appropriate instructional and assessment accommodations are provided for ELs with IEPs 8. Assists schools in administration of language assessments required by federal and state laws. 9. Provides assistance with monitoring exited ESOL students and provides strategies to content teachers to aid in the exit transition. 10. Provides professional development for ESL teachers, classroom teachers, content teachers, administrators and paraprofessionals. 11. Participates in coordinating activities for parents of ELs. 12. Participates in initiatives related to diversity and multiculturalism within the district. 13. Responds to questions from teachers and paraprofessionals regarding English Learners. 14. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Superintendent of Schools and/or their designee. INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD * Teach to prescribed outcomes and goals Use instructional methods that improve student achievement Assign and evaluate appropriate student work Involve students in learning Make effective use of entire class period Use appropriate school support and resource materials Convey to students learning goals and the importance of material learned Be clear in explanations and directions Provide continuity in learning activities Challenge students by using appropriate questioning strategies Speak clearly, audibly, and fluently Adjust the teaching pace to assure maximum student understanding Provide appropriate remedial and/or enrichment material whenever necessary Communicate high expectations for student performance INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING * Establish a positive and safe learning environment Revise lesson plans as needed Plan instructional examples, illustrations, and time for questions into lessons Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials Be creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials SUBJECT MATTER * Demonstrate command of subject areas crucial to instructional effectiveness Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to the subject area and to the teaching of diverse students Remain current in the assigned content area and in the profession Demonstrate enthusiasm about subject matter CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES * Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes Monitor student behavior for compliance with classroom rules Reinforce/reward appropriate social and academic behavior Respond to behavior problems quickly and appropriately Have necessary material and equipment available and ensure their appropriate use and care Provide and distribute necessary classroom materials in an orderly and efficient manner Interact with students in ways which are respectful and friendly, and which reflect an understanding of cultural differences Provide students feedback on their knowledge and skill Use effective methods to manage student behavior PROFESSIONALLY RELATED COMPETENCIES * Participate in review and updating of curricular programs Perform promptly the responsibilities stipulated in Board of Education policies and administrative procedures Adhere to all personal absences procedures and provides appropriate plans and materials for use by the substitute Model and enforce classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures; exemplify the district?s mission and beliefs Be punctual in arrival times to the building, to classes, and to meetings Report promptly student behavior, attendance, and performance to family or guardians and when necessary, refer students to appropriate school personnel; stay in regular communications with parents.
